Galway man Max Flynn will be joining the Connacht Rugby academy squad having signed an academy contract.
Flynn has been part of the academy training squad this season. He was part of the Connacht U19s team in last seasons interpros. The Corinthians man has caught the eye of many coaches this season with his performances in games and at training and will now look to keep developing at Dexcom Stadium and with Corinthians RFC.
"I was probably four or five when my mom brought me down to Corinthians playing the minis" said Flynn.
"I come from a rugby family as all my brothers play and my dad played as well"
Max comes from a small rural village called Lackagh, around 20km away from Galway City.
"It's a brilliant place and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else"
"It is just outside Claregalway so it is a bit away from the city"
"There are two GAA clubs near, Claregalway for football and Turloughmore for hurling, two teams I would have played for growing up until I went away to boarding school"
"It's a very vibrant village for such a small place"
Having come throught the ranks of Corinthians RFC, the flanker was delighted to make his senior debut for the club last season in a derby game against Galwegians.
"I made my senior debut last year at the end of my school season which was a last regular season AIL game against Galwegians"
"It was brilliant, Friday night lights, big game and a class one to be involved in"
"This season has been really successful for the club"
"Due to injuries I missed parts of the season, but I was delighted to play my part in the business end of it where we got promoted"
Max went to school down in Tipperary at Cistercian College Roscrea.
"I was in Roscrea from First to Sixth year and loved every minute of it"
"Rugby was a big part of why I went there as I knew it would be good for my game development"
"Unfortunately we didn't win any Junior or Senior Cup during my time there but I developed massively as a player"
Max is now in University of Galway studying Commerce having just finished his first year there.
He was 15 when he joined the Connacht underage pathway system having spent a lot of time with current coach of the academy squad Morgan Codyre.
"Yeah I was 15 when I first came in contact with the underage pathway"
"I would have joined the regional squads where coaches get to see a lot of players"
"Morgan was coaching me a lot through those years so we know each other very well"
He has also been involved with the Irish U20s this season, leading up to the Six Nations before an injury ruled him out of the Six Nations. Most recently he was involved with the Irish U19s squad.
