Galwegians and Connacht openside flanker Johnny O'Connor has been drafted into the Ireland A squad for their Grand Slam clash against France at La Roche Sur Yon on Friday evening (8 pm local time). O'Connor, capped at this level last season before injury ruled him out for six months, has been drafted into Matt Williams' squad where Connacht coach Steph Nel is assistant coach. Irish coach Eddie O’Sullivan selects the squad and team for each match. O Connor’s chance comes after Eric Miller was ruled out after suffering concussion at the weekend. This meant that Keith Gleeson moves up to the senior squad, paving the way for O’Connor to travel to France. Meanwhile Gavin Duffy and Martin Mc Phail will again feature in the under 21 squad while Ronnie McCormack, Gerry Flannery, Peter Bracken, Des Dillon, Eoghan Reddan and Mark Mc Hugh will all be part of the Irish Students squad. Congratulations to David Connellan, Clongowes Wood and Athlone who captained Irish Schools to victory over English Schools at Cambridge on Saturday last. David, son of Buccs joint president Paul, kicked 15 points in the Irish victory. |
