| International Disappointment for Connacht Stars | |||||

There was little joy for the eight Connacht players on international duty in France this weekend. Johnny O’Connor played a full 70 minutes for the A team who went down 30-20 to France A on Friday night. But the A squad, with assistant coach Steph Nel, still emerged as Championship winners despite losing out on the Slam. It was a similar tale for the Irish Students who went down 27-21, but still emerged as Championship winners. Connacht’s representatives were Ronan McCormack (Buccs), Peter Bracken & Jerry Flannery (Wegians), Mark McHugh (St. Marys) & Eoghan Reddan (Young Munster). The U-21’s were desperately unlucky to lose 22-21. Galwegians Gavin Duffy and Martin McPhail again started for the U-21’s, with McPhail scoring one of the two Irish tries. The Irish Youths completed their Four Nations campaign with a slightly unflattering 36-11 defeat against Scotland. On duty were Connacht’s Donal Nee, Frank Leonard, Ronan Loughney, Dave O'Reilly and Paddy O’Toole, who again got himself on the scoresheet with two penalties. |
