A number of Connacht clubs will be involved in All Ireland competition this weekend. Pride of place goes to Connemara who will travel to Greystones to play in the AIB League Division 3 semi-final. This is a very big game for Connemara but they will be sure to put up a big performance. Once again they will look to Henry O’Toole, the Keogh brothers, Gerry King and Bernard Keaney to lead them by example. Westport travel to Cork to play Highfield in the AIL qualifiers round robin series. Both Westport and Highfield were beaten in the first series of games, so a win is an absolute must for both teams to have any chance of keeping their hopes alive of getting into Division 3 next season. Connacht will also be well represented in various other competitions. Buccaneers travel to Belfast to play Harlequins in the quarter final of the All Ireland U20 league. Corinthians are involved in two competitions. They play Cork Constitution in Cork on Sunday in the quarter-final of the IRFU Junior I Millennium Cup, while their U18 team travel to Mullingar to play the Munster champions in the semi-final of the U18 All Ireland competition. If they are successful here they will play the All Ireland final in Naas on Sunday. Meanwhile Connacht's other representatives in the Millennium Cup, Galwegians, were also originally scheduled to play their quarter-final this weekend against Leinster opposition, but they still must wait to learn who their opponents will be, so this fixture has been deferred. Instead Galwegians are due to fulfill a backdated J2 League fixture at Westport on Sunday. There are also a number of Connacht Junior league matches this week to clear the way for the top four play-off in the Junior I league. Buccaneers and Castlebar will have home advantage in these play-offs scheduled for Sunday 28th April 2002, and this week's games will determine who plays Gort or Corinthians in these semi-finals. |
