Connemara have done it again! The Blacks have continued to confound the critics all season, and on Saturday they had their greatest achievement yet when they defeated table-toppers Greystones in the Division 3 play-off semi-final at Dr. Hickey Park by a remarkable 23-14 scoreline. Connemara were magnificent from 1 to 15, but yet again it was the veteran Henry O’Toole who they had largely to thank, contributing 18 points including two tries. The home side led 14-11 approaching the final minute, with all Connemara’s points having come from O’Toole. But just when the Co. Wicklow side thought they were on their way to Lansdowne for the final, up popped O’Toole again to take advantage of a home error, and he hacked through to score his second try, sending the huge travelling support into raptures. He converted for good measure for an 18-14 lead. And the stunned home side were dealt the final killer blow in injury-time when this time it was winger Pat O’Toole who scampered over to score in the corner. And so Connemara can expect an even bigger travelling support when they face Trinity in the Division 3 final in May, the Dublin students having overcome Old Wesley in the other semi-final. |
