Glasgow managed one try more, while the boot of fly-half Dan Parks landed 20 points. He converted all four tries, kicked three penalties and added a drop goal. The Scots got a dream start with a try from flanker John Barclay after little over a minute. But the Connacht response was excellent with Paul Warwick scoring in the right corner in a solo move which started deep inside his own 22. But Parks punished any penalties given away by Connacht and he also chipped in with a 27th minute drop goal to push Glasgow 16-5 in front. They crossed for their second try seven minutes from the break when Rory Lamont timed his run to perfection for a try under the posts, with a Warwick penalty reducing the deficit to 23-8 at the interval. Connacht’s best period of the game came in the third quarter with Warwick landing a penalty before Conor McPhillips got in for a 45th minute try to reduce the margin to 23-16. However, Connacht’s hopes of completing a great comeback were dashed when replacement winger Hefin O’Hare crossed for a converted try after 55 minutes, with replacement prop Kevin Tkachuk securing bonus point. Connacht never gave up and were rewarded with a penalty try six minutes from time.
