Connacht were defeated by Newport Gwent Dragons tonight for the first time in eight meetings. The home side took their chances with two tries scored by wing Ashton Hewitt. Outhalf Angus O’Brien kicked two drop goals as well as a penalty and conversion to give his side a comfortable 21 – 9 lead after 68 minutes.

Niyi Adeolokun’s try, converted by Jack Carty, who kicked three from three penalties, handed the visitors a chance of a comeback but errors and missed opportunities in the 22 cost Pat Lam’s men.

A losing bonus point was small consolation following a frustrating night in Newport.

Half time: Dragons 13 – 6 Connacht
