Coláiste Iognaid and Garbally College book their place in Top Oil Schools Senior Cup Final

Both the Jes and Garbally came out on top in close fought semi-finals on Wednesday to book their place in this 2016 Top Oil Schools Senior Cup Final.
First up was Coláiste Iognaid who beat Athlone’s Marist College six points to nil in a match that was moved to the Sportground due to an unplayable pitch. The large crowd were treated to an entertaining tussle amid glorious sunshine. The Jes came close to crossing the whitewash a number of times in the first half but the resolute Marist defence held them at bay and with neither team registering a score in the first half it was two second half penalties that sealed their place in the final.
The other semi-final kicked off at 14:00 in Ballinasloe and when Garbally crossed for the games first try after just three minutes it looked ominous for Sligo Grammar. Things didn’t get any easier when Garbally tacked three penalties onto the scoreboard to leave the halftime score sixteen nil to the home side. Grammar came out blazing in the second half and after adding a penalty to a converted try had closed the gap to just six points. Grammar dominated the later stages of the second half but were unable to break down the stout Garbally defence who held on to the six point lead and earned the second final spot.
The Top Oil Schools Senior Cup Final between Coláiste Iognaid and Garbally College will take place in the Sportsground on Wednesday 16th March.
