POST TITLE: Communications Officer for the Club & Community Game
LOCATION: The Sportsground, Galway
ROLE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Communications Officer is a contract position based at Connacht Rugby, 26 hours per week. This will include work on weekends as required.
The purpose of the position is to raise the profile of rugby across the province and raise awareness of Connacht Rugby Club & Community activities. The candidate will develop a structure which allows Club & Community information, match reports, news stories and insights to be collated and disseminated across the province through the most effective mediums available.

Operational & Functional: Operationally the Communications Officer will report directly to the Media & PR manager. Functionally the Communications Officer will have close working relationships with the Media & PR manager for Connacht Rugby, the Administrator for Connacht Rugby and both the Coach Development Manager and the Club Support Manager.


The position is ideal for a candidate who is looking to begin working in a communications role in a professional sports organisation, or a candidate with experience who is looking for contract work. Past full time job experience is not required but desirable.

• Design of a communications plan to collate and disseminate newsworthy items for the Club & Community game.
• Development and monitoring of the Club & Community communications channels in line with Connacht Rugby’s Vision and Strategy.
• Creation of relevant and engaging content for release through the Club & Community website, social media channels, match programme and local and national media including the Irish Independent Supplement.
• Promotion of upcoming Connacht Club & Community courses, workshops, competitions and events through social media and media outlets.
• Raising the profile and awareness throughout Connacht of the core Club & Community competitions, courses and events.
• Delivering the “Grassroots to Green Shirts” vision to all corners of Connacht in line with Connacht Rugby’s Vision & Strategy 2016 – 2020.
• Delivering match reports and as required attending Club and Community and Age-grade games.


• Quality and frequency of media output.
• Maintain effective relationships with staff, volunteers, clubs & schools within Connacht Rugby.
• Carry out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision.
• Establish efficient work practices.
• Make effective and informed decisions in relation to the role.

 3rd Level Degree

 3rd Level Degree in Media, Social Media or Journalism related disciplines
