Connacht U18 Girls Sevens Success

The Connacht U18 Girls Sevens side have taken part in three Interprovincial Development Blitzes over the past two months.

The 16-player Connacht squad was represented by players from Galwegians, Buccaneers, Ballinasloe, Westport, and Tuam with a full squad list below.

Club and Community Rugby Officer Walter Gibbons coached the side and they made huge strides over the two months as they competed with the best young players in the country. It proved a great experience for the young Connacht side and they used the opportunity to raise their skills to an even higher level.

The exposure to the 7s game will also stand to the U18s as they progress in the 15-a-side game. Annette Byrne did a fantastic job as Team Manager and Women's Development Officer Wendy Hickey provided plenty of support and guidance.

Connacht Rugby would like to extend a special thanks to Ireland internationals Nicole Fowley and Mary Healy for taking some of the training sessions, it was a big treat for the girls to be coached by top level players.

Thanks also to all players, clubs, coaches, parents, and guardians for their help;  Ballinrobe, Ballyhaunis, and Tuam RFC for the use of their facilities; and Kennedy Travel, Westport for transport to and from games.
