The Oughterard RFC side at the U14 blitz.

Castlebar RFC recently hosted an U14 pre-season blitz on Saturday, August 19.

The event was an opportunity for clubs to get some much-needed game time under their belts ahead of the new season which begins on September 9 for U14 teams. Seven teams from six clubs attended on the day and served up a series of tightly contested 10-a-side matches.

Teams from Galwegians, Buccaneers, Creggs, Westport, Oughterard and Castlebar were split into two pools with the aim of getting an hour’s rugby apiece over the course of the day.

The blitz was the first of three age-grade blitzes to be held across the province in the build-up to the new season. This new initiative, which was put in place by the Connacht Youths Committee, will see two further blitzes held ahead of the new season.

An U18.5 blitz will take place on Saturday, September 9 with the venue for this blitz to be confirmed.

Any clubs who are interested in attending either of these upcoming events should email [email protected] to confirm their entry.
