Claremorris RFC host first Coaching Course
Claremorris Colts RFC hosted their first ever Connacht Rugby Coaching Course earlier this month as our Club & Community Department continue their fantastic work across the province.

The course follows on from a visit to the club by the Connacht senior squad in Head Coach Kieran Keane’s first community visit last month.

In total, 16 coaches attended the Stage 1 Coaching Course with 11 from Claremorris RFC, two each from Westport and Corrib and one coach from Sligo RFC.

Coach development officer Gavin Foley led the course with assistance from colleague Conor Galvin.

Connacht players pose with a Claremorris RFC flag at their open squad training session.

Robert Campbell, Claremorris RFC Mini Co-ordinator, was a great help in organising the event and many thanks to Robert from everyone at Connacht Rugby.

Following the completion of the course, Campbell said: “Thanks to Connacht Rugby for giving Claremorris Colts RFC the opportunity to host this Stage 1 Coaching Course.

“The Claremorris coaches really enjoyed the course and learned a huge amount from Gavin Foley and the coaching team.

“Also thanks to Gavin for his help in organising the event.”

The stage 1 coaching courses are specifically designed for coaches of mini rugby (5-12yrs old) where players are being introduced to rugby for the first time and participating in games of reduced numbers (8’s, 10’s and 12-a-side).

The focus is on safety and enjoyment with the coach acting as guide in a player-centred process.

Developing players’ all-round skills and game-understanding with an emphasis on physical literacy appropriate to the stages of development of each individual are the key technical, tactical and physical module objectives.

The course develops the coach as guide.
