Huge blitz in Roscommon for pupils

Club & Community Rugby Officer Micheál Glennon co-ordinated an Aldi Play Rugby Blitz at Donamon Castle recently with over 350 young school pupils taking part.

Micheál works in the wider Roscommon region and with Creggs RFC and is one of 14 Connacht Rugby CCRO's working across the province to increase the profile and impact of the game at a local level.

The event was held to give the fifth and sixth class students the opportunity to play rugby and was an introduction to the basics.

Fello Connacht Rugby staff members Lyndon Jones, Peter O'Hara, Tiernan Ryan, Walter Gibbons, Emer O'Dowd, Conor Galvin, Simon O'Malley, Colm McWeeney and Will Thornton also assisted on the day with another blitz planned ahead of the Christmas break.

The event ran very smoothly and was a big success and Connacht Rugby would like to thank all of the teachers and pupils that participated.

Folloing the blitz, Micheál Glennon said: “This blitz was a huge success and it was fantastic to see so many youngsters getting the opportunity to play rugby here at Donamon Castle.

“It was clear to see how much they all enjoyed it and I’m sure there will be a large number joining their local clubs.”
