3rd Girls contact blitz for Connacht
The last girls youths contact blitz took place in the Sportsground on Saturday April 24th. Teams from Westport RFC, Ballinasloe RFC (2 teams) and the Connemara All Blacks took part and played 3 matches each throughout the day. For Connemara, this was their first ever blitz as they were just after starting training 6 weeks previous.
Wendy Hickey, Community rugby officer and women’s development officer, was satisfied with the growth of the game this year throughout the province. “Girls rugby has really taken off in clubs across the province this year, and this is due to the work done by the Community Rugby Officers in the secondary schools as well as support given from both the clubs and the volunteers within their respective clubs. I would like to thank all the coaches and CRO’s for their vital contribution to the girls’ game, and am hoping this will continue to grow next season.”
