Connacht Rugby players Craig Ronaldson, Danie Poolman and Danny Qualter helped launch the €2 Christmas Jumper campaign to help raise awareness of Ability West, it’s official charity partner for 2015/16.

By donating €2 you can help 535 children and adults with an intellectual disability to realise their dreams and ambitions and to take their rightful place in society.

The companies who have already signed up to support this campaign include Connacht Rugby, O’Leary Insurances, Permanent TSB, KBC Bank, Galway Independent, Galway City Council, the Clayton Hotel, the Ardilaun Hotel, Galway Bay Hotel, Blackrock House, Criost Linn ADS, Salerno School, USIT, Top Oil, AIB, KPMG, Grant Thorton, Murray & Spelman, Donnellan Casserly & Co, CCP Recruitment, Kylemore Abbey, Harmony Acupuncture Clinic, Aribica, Mr. Windscreen Centre & School Wear Centre, staff members from each company/business wear their Christmas Jumper for one day of the companies choosing and each staff member donates €2 each to Ability West.

Commenting at the launch, Deirdre Whyte, Development Officer at Ability West said:

Connacht Rugby player Craig Ronaldson added:

“We’re delighted to help promote this campaign with our charity partner Ability West. We’ve worked with them in the past and we know all the great work they do locally so it’s great to see so many companies on board already and planning to wear their Christmas Jumpers to work to raise awareness and fundraise for Ability West. Ability West is a voluntary organisation, set up by parents and friends, which provides services and supports to over 535 children and adults with an intellectual disability in 11 geographical locations throughout Galway City and County.  We have 55 centres and services include: day, residential, respite, rehabilitative training, job placements, supported employment in the local community, active ageing and community supports.  Multidisciplinary supports for example speech and language therapy, social work, psychology, positive behaviour support, physiotherapy and occupational therapy are also provided to both children and adults with intellectual disability.  Ability West is patron of four special schools located in Ballinasloe, Carraroe, Galway City and Tuam.

The vision of Ability West is to enable people with intellectual disability to realise their dreams and ambitions and to take their rightful place in society.
