Independent Contractors Required for Connacht Rugby Age Grade Summer Programme Physiotherapist Roles

An exciting opportunity for a number of physiotherapists to work with the future stars of Connacht Rugby on the Summer Age Grade Programme has arisen. The roles will be based in Moneenageisha School, Galway, with one physiotherapist for both the U19 (Monday and Tuesday) and U17 (Thursday and Friday) squads and one physiotherapist for the U18 squad (Thursday and Friday). Both roles will be for the duration of the seven week programme and their respective Interpro games.

ROLE

To provide physiotherapy care to Connacht Rugby Age Grade squads during a summer training programme and Interprovincial tournament. The programme will entail 7 weeks of pre season training between Monday July 4th and Friday August 26th excluding the week of July 25th to 29th. The U19 squad will train on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the U17 and U18 squads will train on Thursdays and Fridays. There will be at least one warm game per squad prior to the Interprovincial tournaments which involve 3 games per squad. One physiotherapist will provide care to the U19 and U17 squads and the other will provide care to the U18 squad.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The overall responsibilities of the Age Grade Physiotherapist include the following:

  • Provide high quality physiotherapy care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary medical team, coaches and S&C staff to all player
  • Work as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary medical team
  • Adhere to the medical protocols of the Connacht Rugby Medical Department including the following:
    • Connacht Rugby RTP Protocol
    • Connacht Rugby Follow Up Care Protocol
    • IRFU Concussion Guidelines
    • World Rugby Anti-Doping Regulations
  • Ensure that all players’ medical records are kept up to date (i.e. updated within 24 hours of injury/treatment)
  • Meet with the Connacht Rugby Lead Physiotherapist as required

Pre-Programme Preparation:

  • Liaise with the Academy Physiotherapist, Head Coach, Team Manager and S&C Coach in relation to player illness/injury status and in camp management strategies
  • Liaise with Academy Manager and Academy Physiotherapist regarding camp schedule
  • Arrange for collection/delivery of medical equipment a minimum of one week prior to the start of the post

Daily Duties:

  • Ensure players complete the Connacht Rugby Sign In/Out forms
  • Check medical equipment is provided and maintain sufficient stock
  • Attend all management/team meetings where required by the team manager/coach
  • Provide physiotherapy assessment and treatment of all player injuries
  • Program and supervise any scheduled rehabilitation sessions and recovery sessions where required
  • Refer players to Club Doctor (through Academy Physiotherapist) for any reported illnesses or for injury assessment
  • Ensure agreed player management plans between medical, coaches and S&C staff, are adhered to during the camp
  • Record all illnesses/injuries as per outlined record keeping system
  • Attend all pitch sessions and ensure medical emergency bags are pitch side at all times.
  • Prior to departure from camp, meet with coaches, S&C staff to discuss injury status of players, plan of care and appropriate feedback to coaches and family members.

Post Programme Duties and Debrief:

  • Provide appropriate feedback to management regarding player illness/injury
  • Provide medical report to Academy Physiotherapist regarding player status/illness/injury

EXPERIENCE / BACKGROUND

  • Minimum of 2 years postgraduate experience in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy
  • Member of Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists or Chartered Society of Physiotherapists
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Experience working with sports teams is essential, preferably in rugby
  • SAFE Level 2/3 or equivalent course completion
  • World Rugby modules on Concussion and Medical Match Day Staff completion
  • Garda clearance

  • High level of organisational and communication skills
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with all members of staff and players
  • Efficient time keeping
  • Proficient IT skills

Please note that these roles are being offered on an independent contractor basis only and candidates will be required to provide proof of their public liability insurance.  Payment for services will be made following the submission of invoices in accordance with the Connacht Rugby Finance Policy.
