On the 18th of December, transition year rugby coaches from Ard Scoil Mhuire, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway held a Leprechaun Rugby blitz for all second years.  After weeks of intensive training our second years displayed the skills they had accumulated over their rugby sessions with the TY coaches.

All second years were spilt into groups, with 2A and 2B coming down between 11 till 1:10 and 2C and 2D coming down from 1:50 till 3:45. With great enthusiasm from all students we started all games on time, each game lasted 10 minutes. Each student got to play in plenty of games.

With every student cheering on one another and rugby coaches cheering on their teams, there was great excitement. An outstanding performance was shown by each player with all students interacting positively with each other.

From 2A and 2B the winning team with the most points, were put forward to play the winning team with the most points from 2C and 2D group. A very exciting final was won by a team from 2C in the end.

We gave medals to first and second place at the end of the day. We also gave prizes to two of the most valuable players of the tournament.

Overall the day was a great success and all students enjoyed taking part in our rugby blitz.  Each student has come on leaps and bounds since their first day of coaching. We hope that the second year students will take part in rugby for under 15’s in Ballinasloe RFC as a result of all their coaching.
