Connacht dropped out of the all-important top six of the Guinness PRO12 for the first time this season after the last round of games that saw Edinburgh and Scarlets overtake the Irish province on points.

However, Pat Lam’s men are still in with a chance of qualifying for next season’s European Champions Cup, and it starts with a win over Zebre tomorrow evening in Italy.

In this video, head coach Pat Lam explains the possible outcomes ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.

Should Connacht finish seventh in the league (it’s highest ever position), the team will be entered into a play-off competition for the last Champions Cup rugby qualifying spot. The first leg would include a clash with Challenge Cup winners Gloucester – the two sides having already met in the quarter final in April – on the weekend of May 23rd / 24th.

If Connacht were to beat Gloucester, they would have then secured a home tie against the seventh placed French side in the Top 14 league. At it stands, that game would be against Bordeaux-Begles on the weekend of May 30th / 31st. A win here would confirm Champions Cup rugby for the province for the 2015/16 season.
