The 3rd blitz this year was held at Athlone IT’s astroturf pitch under the shadow of the magnificent new sports arena.

Over two hundred young children participated in this fun blitz organised by officers of the Connacht Branch Development Department, Charlie Couper, Connor Galvin, Declan McKeon and Liam Callaghan.

The six schools involved enjoyed the exhibition of touch rugby skills and games throughout the morning and were keen to come back again. With the help of Buccaneers rugby players who refereed enthusiastically despite the chill conditions both teachers and pupils had a great morning.

Buccaneers mini rugby secretary Keith Farnon who attended throughout the event commented “It was brilliant to see so many youngsters playing at a high level. It was also good to see the partnership between AIT, Buccaneers Adult players, Connacht and our own national schools flourishing”
