Three Blitzes were held recently at Buccaneers R.F.C.
The first was a National School touch rugby blitz with ten teams of 6th class boys and girls participating on a sunny autumnal day. Skill levels were really good in the fast flowing encounters between the various teams. Everyone went home happy after a great days sport.
The second blitz was a secondary schools blitz for 1st year pupils and played in a 15 a side format. Although it took a while for players to get used to the more structured game, as games progressed there was a marked improvement. Six teams all played each other in a series of short games which were allowed to flow by excellent refereeing.
The last blitz of the three was a second year 15 a side blitz held last week in damp conditions on the sound underfoot pitches. Again six teams teams locked horns in the short matches and all got plenty of rugby before going home tired but content. A huge improvment from the previous blitz was evident in some cracking encounters.
Many thanks again to the school Principals, teachers and all the players for making these blitzes a success. Special thanks to all who refereed the games and in particular Connacht staff Rory Byrne and Steve Gregory.
