Backline Attack and Scrum/Lineout Workshop

On Tuesday, the Connacht Rugby Coach Development Department ran a coaching workshop on backline attack and scrum/lineout in Ballina. The workshops was organised by Coach Development Officer, Gavin Foley, specifically for coaches of youth and adult rugby sides, with the focus on developing players’ all-round skills and game-understanding of backline attack and scrum/lineout.

Eric Elwood, Connacht Academy Manager, and Colm Tucker, Connacht Provincial Talent Manager, delivered 2 presentations each on the night, one indoor and one outdoor. A big thank you to the Ballina U17 and U18 players who took part in the outdoor sessions.

45 coaches attended the workshop from 5 different clubs; Ballina, Sligo, Claremorris, Carrick-on-Shannon and Ballyhaunis. Feedback from the workshop was very positive and provided the coaches with further skill games/drills they can introduce to their own rugby coaching sessions.

Thank you to Eric Elwood and Colm Tucker for their excellent presentations on the night. A special mention to Ballina's youth coordinator, Sandra Cribben, and branch delegate, Gerry O'Donnell, for their help on the night and Ballina RFC for the use of their clubhouse and astro pitch.

Further coaching workshops are scheduled in the new year, details of these will be released through the Connacht Rugby Club & Community website and in due course.
