With Ballinasloe’s senior xv enjoying a break in activities at the week-end the action involved the age grade teams.
The U19s copped a rare defeat when going down to Monivea, away, in the cup on the score of 17pts to 13. Short seven regulars due to injuries and non- availability,
Ballinasloe put up a brave performance and were well in the hunt at the break with the sides level 3pts a piece with Darragh McCormack kicking a Ballinasloe penalty.
There was little to choose between the sides in the second half with McCormack adding a further penalty and converting a fine try by Eoin Clogher but Monivea finished
the stronger for a 4pt win. However, Ballinasloe are still in with a shout for league honours and will now compete in the plate competition.
The U17s had a comprehensive win over a plucky Castlebar side at home in the cup.
The U16s had a deserved 12pts to 5 away win over Monivea in their special competition.
The U15s defeated Corinthians by 21pts to 17 in an entertaining league encounter at home on Sunday. This win now sets them up for the league play offs. Ballinasloe
started brightly with Cian Dooley going in for a try in the opening minutes and Eoin McCormack adding the conversion. Corinthians pulled a try back in the 10th minute
before the locals scored their second try of the afternoon. Jack Godyre took a good ball at a lineout close to the opposition line before running in to touchdown with
Ian Duffy adding a difficult conversion leaving the half time score 14pts to 5.
Twelve minutes into the second period and Ballinasloe were penalised for an indiscretion while attacking their opponents line. Rapid play by Corinthians lead to their
scoring a try at the other end to leave 4pts between the sides. In the 43rd minute Brian Shaughnessey started a fine run from just inside his own half that left the visitors
defence grasping at shadows as he touched down behind the sticks with Ian Duffy adding the conversion. However, the city side were not ready to lie down and scored
a converted try with 6mins remaining to keep the game on a knife edge right to the final whistle.
Ballinasloe Team: A.Mannion (capt.), E.McCormack, B.Shaughnessey, C.Barrett, C.Dooley, I.Duffy, S.Tierney, P.Gilsen, S.Lyons, D.O’Hara, P.Feehily, C.Toohig,

The U13s and 14s took advantage of a lull in their match programmes to travel to Shannon RFC for friendly fixtures. While both squads enjoyed the trip they experienced
mixed luck with the U13s shipping a narrow 10pts to 5 loss and the U14s scoring a good win over the hosts.
