Ballinasloe 34 beat Gort 0

Ballinasloe was comprehensive in its Heineken Plate win over Gort on the weekend, 34 points separating the two and Gort scoreless throughout.

Ballinasloe’s Director of Rugby Noel Mannion rotated his squad with upcoming focal fixtures in mind.

Those who stepped into the breach performed admirably to a man, and all staked claims for inclusion in the remaining campaign.

Gort, for their part, battled gamely but rarely showed the intensity or focus their opponents did. Ballinasloe posted near enough to a point a minute for the first quarter hour, Robert O’Beirne responsible for the lot. Cian Loughrey scored at the 20-minute mark, and Ross Keller bolted through from 40m out several minutes shy of halftime.

The second half brought no respite for the visitors as Darragh Burke touched down early and Richie Sheppard crossed for the fifth.

While Ballinasloe broke a sweat, they broke little more in the 34-point romp but are well aware tougher battles await in the days to follow.

Ballinasloe: D.Burke, C.Loughrey, N.Sharpe, C.Johnson, M.Gibbons, R.O’Beirn, F.Sweeney, J.J.Carey, A.O’Hara(capt), T.Dolan, K.Dolan, M.Harrigan, E.Courtney, D.Fenton, R.Wakefield. Replacements: (all used) L.Feerick, R.Sheppard, A.Wade, G.Donnellan.
