We can not let the curtain come down on the season without congratulating our U19s team on recently capturing the Connacht Plate with a fine win over Sligo at Monivea. The final score of 43pts to 10 shows that Ballinasloe were worthy winners but a hardworking Sligo were worth more than their 10pt final tally.
Ballinasloe got off to a fine start and two early tries and a conversion settled the nerves early on. Sligo pulled a try back half way through the half. The winners approach of trying to batter their way up the middle was not yielding the scores that their dominance deserved and Sligo were resolute in defence. However they did tack on two converted tries late in the half to go in 26pts to 5  at the
break.

The losers scored their second try early in the second half but thereafter Ballinasloe took over. They changed tack to a more expansive running game that was enjoyable to watch. They were now passing and laying off the ball to telling effect and it was no surprise that they ran in a further three tries with one converted before the final whistle. Afterwards coach Declan Quinn was very pleased with the performance of his charges and felt that this was one of their better displays all season. A large number of this squad will be under age again next season and hopefully they will go on  to develope into a strong and successful side.
