Ballinasloe rugby club played off the Michael Fitzpatrick Memorial golf classic at the local golf club over Friday and Saturday last. The club was very pleased to see a large number of teams enter this popular tournament. In changeable weather conditions, quite a varying list of scores were returned with the winning score of 104pts being posted by the team comprising of Sean Tully, Donal Twohig, Michael Cormican and Gerry Gaughran. A special prize went to the top all ladies team which was made up of Kitty McHugh, Gaye Barton, Ronnie Keeley and Ann Murphy. Some great prizes were presented on Saturday evening at a function in the golf club where members of the Fitzpatrick family were in attendance.


Ballinasloe’s first team got its competitive season off to the best possible start with a comprehensive league win over Gort at home on Sunday. The final score was 43pts to 3. Ballinasloe laid the foundation for this win with a compelling first half performance and lead comfortably at the break.

They took their foot off the gas in the second period but still ran out comfortable winners.

Elsewhere, the club’s U14’s and 15’s had wins over their respective counterparts from Mullingar in friendlies at home on Sunday morning.
