Ballinasloe’s Cawley Cup fixture with Ballyhaunis, due to have taken place at Moher last Sunday, was cancelled due to a bereavement in the Ballyhaunis camp. It has been re-fixed for next Sunday with a 2.00pm kick off to facilitate extra time if necessary. These sides met recently in the league with Ballinasloe triumphing by 13pts. Despite the scoreline this was a closely fought encounter and this week- ends meeting should be another tight battle with Ballinasloe hoping that home advantage and local support will see them through. The winners will be home to Monivea in the next round.
Elsewhere, Ballinasloe’s U19s had a good win over a physically strong Loughrea side on Friday night. The losers put up a stern fight before going down by 38pts to 15.The club’s U17s would have been rated the underdogs in their league game with Sligo, at home on Sunday, but deservedly came away with the points. This was a tough, physical contest with the determined locals coming out on top by a whisker, 11pts to 10. Two penalties from the boot of Sean Coughlan and a try by Paddy Connolly made up the Ballinasloe score. The U13s went down to Creggs in their contest.
