Connacht scrumhalf Caolin Blade won the public vote for February Player of the Month beating off competition from other nominees Tiernan O’Halloran and Sean O’Brien. It was the first time the 22-year-old from Monivea was presented with the award in association with Hartmanns Jewellers.

Blade, a graduate of the Connacht Academy, is in his second season as a pro and has 40 appearances to his name. He featured in all three fixtures last month, scoring a try in both games he started – against Newport Gwent Dragons and Benetton Treviso.

Adding real competition to the scrumhalf position, Blade is signed up to his native Connacht Rugby until at least the summer of 2018.
