BUCCANEERS are hosting a New Year’s Eve party in The Bounty on Friday, December 31st, commencing with a mulled wine reception from 7.30 p.m. A sumptious four course dinner including wine is being laid on as the club revives this traditional end of year event that promises to be a wonderful social occasion and exciting finale to 2010. Live musical entertainment will be followed by a DJ to start the New Year swinging. So, dress smart to impress and, as ticket supply is limited, early booking is strongly recommended. Tickets are priced very reasonably at just €40 each. They can be booked from our Administrator Geraldine at 086-1732711 or by contacting Peggy Hynes, Regina Bushell or Kathy Conlon.

The ever popular St. Stephen’s Day match between an Exiles XV and the Buccaneers’ President’s selection takes place in Dubarry Park with a 2 p.m. kick off. At stake is the James Moran Exiles Perpetual Cup and, of course, bragging rights for a year to the victors. Joe McVeigh, Tom Stuart-Trainor and Martin Cahill could be involved for the Exiles with veteran Craig Milling togging out to lead the charge for Big Pat’s standard bearers! It should be a fun event as these hardy protagonists go head to head to rid themselves of their respective Christmas excesses. The Cup presentation will follow in The Bounty after the game and will be followed later that night by a social with live music and disco. There will be a nominal cover charge on the night. Come along and meet friends old and new.

A TABLE QUIZ is being organised by the club on this Thursday night, December 16th, in The Bounty getting under way at 8.30 p.m. Entry fee is €40 per table of four. There will be seasonal spot prizes and a festive raffle on the night. The support of players and parents is encouraged for this social event.

The Ladies Christmas social, which was unfortunately postponed due to the severe weather, may now be rescheduled for Saturday, December 18th to coincide with a Xmas Party Night in The Bounty when cover charge of only €20 covers meal and entertainment.

Buccaneers replica gear including jerseys, embroidered hoodies, rucksacks, socks with logos and beanies are selling well. They make ideal gifts for up and coming would-be Brian O’Driscoll’s, Paul O’Connell’s or even Kolo Kiripati’s so contact Jackie Pears at 085-1133806 to ensure stock available in time for Christmas. Craig Milling at 087-4198202 is looking after adult sizes.

All Buccaneers fixtures last weekend again fell victim to the prolonged spell of severe weather. At time of writing any rescheduling for this coming weekend could not be confirmed so best to check Buccs website later in the week for updates @  www.buccaneersrfc.com

DUBARRY PARK will again be the venue for Ireland’s home fixtures in the forthcoming U-20 Six Nations Championship. This is the sixth successive season that Dubarry Park has been selected with Ireland’s great record there — as well as bumper crowds of midlands’ supporters cheering them on – being key factors in the IRFU continuing to select it as their favoured base. Ireland clinched last year’s title with some tremendous rugby exhibitions at the Athlone ground and they will be making a bold bid to retain their crown this season, especially with home advantage against France on Friday, February 12th, followed by a mouth-watering and possibly championship deciding St. Patrick’s weekend clash with England on Friday, March 18th. Definitely two dates to ink in to next year’s diary. Both games will be broadcast live on TV.
