RUGBY with MICHAEL SILKE
BUCCS TAG LEAGUE
BUCCANEERS SUMMER TAG LEAGUE reaches the half way stage this week when matches are being played on Friday evening. This week’s fixtures are “friendlies” with the “after-party” following in Sean’s Bar. Springbuccs, Murphy’s Law, # Tags and Rizzlekicks are the leading contenders in the Competitive pool. Sheeptaggers, Tryers and Drop Kick Murphys are among the pacesetters in the Social pool. Both pools are finely balanced and the different grades of Competitive and Social have met with a positive response this summer, when the weather too has been favourable. It will be back to Thursday nights from next week until the Finals Night which takes place on Friday, July 25th. It will be fancy dress both on and off the pitches on Finals Night with the prize-giving following afterwards in The Bounty, who are continuing their Tag Special of a bottle of beer + burger for just €5 on Tag nights.

MID SEPTEMBER START FOR ALL-
The coming season’s Ulster Bank League has an even earlier than usual start with the first round of matches scheduled for Saturday,September 13th. That’s two weeks earlier than the most recent couple of seasons, which had commenced earlier than heretofore. So it will be back training very shortly for the Senior squad.
FIFA WORLD CUP
It may be difficult to focus on rugby during the soccer World Cup which has been hugely entertaining and positive in the main, although some of the last sixteen matches have been a bit too cagey. Luis Suarez has captured most attention for his third shameful moment of madness; for such a wonderfully talented footballer, he is frustratingly exasperating. At time of writing, European teams are not faring too well and it is terrific to see unheralded nations and unfamiliar players doing so well.
CONDOLENCES
Deepest sympathy is extended to Teresa and Michael Kiely and family on the death of Teresa’s mother Mae Mulhern. Condolences also to the friends of Patrick Flynn, known to most simply as Cisco. He had a lifelong passion for sport particularly soccer to which he gave countless years of unselfish service.
BEST WISHES
Best wishes for a full and swift recovery to a sterling Buccs supporter Dermot Dunning.
