Senior cup Semi-final, v Sligo Away

Buccaneers premiers travel north-west to Sligo for their Connacht Cup semi-final.

Sligo’s sluggish start in their debutante senior season counts for little, as the northerners now boast a handy-enough win record to date. Confidence now among their virtues, Sligo will lack no motivation for the local derby on home soil. Buccs will need to be on-song to secure a finals berth away from home this weekend and stamp any mark on this winter’s knockout championship.

The Under-21s host Bruff…in the National League’s southwest conference, 2.30 pm in Athlone on Saturday. The YoungBuccs started well this season and must plug the home advantage to stay among the table’s top trio.

The Development side…is away to NUIG in the Connacht Junior 1B League at Dangan on Sunday. Buccs should have too much know-how for College but the Students will punish any complacency.

The Thirds are…also on the road to Galway where they tackle Our Ladys Boys Club in the Connacht J2 League on Sunday, 2.30 pm kickoffs for both fixtures.

The Table Quiz in aid of Buccaneers underage rugby drew a respectable attendance to The Bounty last week. Thank you for your support. Thanks too to the organisers and various sponsors, in particular Ted Carty (of Oliver Carty Meats) for lovely seasonal hams, and Ronan Gately (who sourced coveted tickets for Munster v Connacht on St Stephen’s Day). Leo Galvin’s team had first dibs on these tickets but subsequently put them up for auction to generate additional club funds.

A selection of Kids and Adult Buccaneers replica gear can be bought through the club. These make ideal Christmas gifts.
