Gort 10 down to Buccaneers 60

Although below full-strength, Buccaneers Juniors proved too strong for Gort posting a 50-point margin away from home.

The 60-10 scoreline at St Colman’s Park, Gort, belied the horrendous wintry conditions in which the game played out. It was a 10-try rout where Henry Reilly, Rory Walshe and Conor Lavelle all chalked up two-apiece. Darragh Lennon, John Maguire, Diarmuid Higgins and Brian Walsh clocked the remainder and Terry Hynes converted five. James Tormey and Rory Byrne dominated the lineouts, and Adrian Hughes proved powerful in the pack, ably-assisted by hooker Lennon. Rory Walshe and Brian Walsh the pick of the backs.

BUCCANEERS: C.Lavelle; B.Walsh, R.Walshe, D.Byrne, J.Maguire; T.Hynes, G.Walsh; L.Doran, D.Lennon, D.Higgins; R.Byrne, J.Tormey; H.Reilly, B.Stewart and A.Hughes.

Buccaneers 0 lost to Sligo 34

A well-organised and fitter Sligo Seconds outplayed Buccaneers Thirds 34nil on Dubarry Park, Sunday.

Former Buccaneer captain Niall Hughes, coaching the visitors, engineered a 15-nil half-time lead and never let up throughout the second. Pat Hynes’ yellow-card didn’t help matters as Buccaneers played catch-up footy throughout, a man down for 10 minutes.

Gerry Glynn and Damien Kelly apllied themselves well for the hosts, but were unable to dent the more complete Sligo performance.

BUCCANEERS: R.Silke; D.Smith, D.Kelly, S.Flynn, T.Couper; R.Flanagan, T.Donohoe; P.McManus, R.Grennan, K.Grehan; P.Hynes, G.Kenny; G.Glynn, D.Dunning and S.Byrne. Replacements used:- P.Rikadze, B.McGrath, D.Gilligan and N.Meares.
