Under 14 Match Report for Sunday 19/10/2014.  Carrick v Tuam

Carrick 12 – Tuam 12.  Carrick headed to Tuam for their second under -14 league game.  This was always going to a tricky assignment but Carrick put in a very workman like performance and came away with a well-deserved draw.  With weather conditions blowing up ok both teams took to playing good solid rugby, this for large parts was a battle up front but that said, both tries came from our backs Sean Lenehan and Tom McKeon crossing the line with Paul woods adding a conversion.  Carrick did all their scoring in the first half and were forced to defend their line for all of the second half.  Tuam threw everything they had at the Carrick lads but great tackling and team work held the line and held out for a great draw.  Credit must go to the whole panel of 20 that travelled each doing their bit to a man.  We now have a break for a few weeks but training will continue as normal.  A special word of thanks to the many parents that travelled on the day, your support is greatly appreciated.

Team: 1 Matthew Early.   2 Turlough O’Connor.  3 Ashley Mezey.  4 Kevin Brady.  5 David O’Connell. 6 James Mc Guide.  7 Brian King.  8 Robin Weaver.  9  Ruairi King.  10 Paul Woods.  11 Alan Crowe.  12 Tom McKeon.  13 Sean Lenehan.  14 Jack Aldridge. 15 Eoghan Farrell.  16 Eoin Toolan.  17 James Óg McGuire.  18 Liam Taylor.  19 Cathal Gormley.  20 Liam Phealen.    Coaches:   Donal Woods, Stephen King, Gerry Reynolds.

CRFC Minis (6yrs to 11yrs/Boys & Girls)

Cavan RFC Minis  visit Carrick RFC at Keenaghan, Castlecara Rd., Carrick on Shannon.

On Saturday 18/10/2014 Cavan RFC Minis travelled to Carrick on Shannon RFC for a morning of mini rugby.  With our Ulster neighbours arriving early and prepared, the teams were divided into their respective ages and the rugby commenced.  Cavan by the most part had stronger teams, with the advantage of some of their players 6 months older due to provincial age brackets.  Carrick RFC, with many players only starting rugby a few weeks previously and a few only starting that very day, played brilliantly and were a credit to themselves and the club.  It was no surprise that all the games seemed to Carrick Coaches were quite happy with the standard of our teams performances but will concentrate on improving our game for the season ahead.  Cavan were thankful for the hospitality when they were leaving and were impressed with the condition of the Carrick pitches at Keenaghan, Carrick on Shannon.  A big thank you to all the parents who stayed and supported the players in their first blitz this season.  Carrick Minis next blitz is away to Ballyshannon on the 08/11/2014 followed by a Home Blitz the following day in Leitrim Gaels Community pitch against Lansdowne RFC.

Training for CRFC Minis is from 10:30 am to 12 pm.  Training for new boys and girls is free for two weeks and the idea is for new players to give rugby a try!  A big thank you to all our returning players and it’s great to see new young players, brave enough to come down and give Rugby a try.  If you are a boy or girl aged between 6 years and 12 years and are interested in learning how to play rugby, please ask a parent to contact Aidan on 086 3867960 or email [email protected] for more info.
