CONNACHT U17 LEAGUE DIV 2 SEMI FINAL – CARRICK 6 DUNMORE 51

Carrick’s effort to reach the Connacht final came to a brave but bruising end away to reigning champions Dunmore last Sunday.

Not wanting a repeat of their fright in Mohill last November Dunmore tore in to their visitors from the outset.  Using their physical superiority and their total domination at the line out the champions registered two early tries, two penalties from Nally helping Carrick hang on for dear life 6-17 down at half time.

After the interval Carrick took the battle to Dunmore, who had to endure a sin binning early in the second half.  Sensing their opportunity,  Carrick laid siege to the Dunmore line looking for a way back into the contest.  Once returned to full strength Dunmore added two quick tries to kill the game as a contest.  Carrick battled hard to the end but the physical effort of trying to live with such superior opponents began to take it’s toll and Dunmore ran out emphatic winners.

Though a heavy defeat on the scoreboard these players should remember that their efforts in reaching our first semi final is a huge boost to our young club.  Every player battled gamely to the end but special mention must be given to Kevin Rushe and Felim McHugh.  Kevin took the physical battle to the champions right to the end where Felim was immense and was central to everything positive that Carrick did on the pitch last Sunday.

CONNACHT JUNIOR LEAGUE 1B – CARRICK 44 GORT 0

After their tortous Junior Cup exit last week Carrick took out their frustrations on their visitors with an emphatic 44-0 win in Leitrim Village last Sunday.  Joe Mulleady, John Casey, Stephen Guckian, Lorcan Kirwan and David McHugh with a brace were the try scorers, adding four conversions and two penalties for good measure.

After a couple of near misses it was heartening to be at the right end of such an emphatic win in front of their supporters and will stand them in good stead for the delights of their trip to Ferbane next Sunday.
