Shane Matthews, may he Rest In Peace.

Carrick Rugby was deeply saddened to learn of Shane’s death after his long, brave battle with illness. We extend our sympathies to his wife Bernie and all his family and friends at this difficult time. Shane’s son Jack is one of our most impressive underage players and his dad was involved in club coaching at underage level.

Ar Dheis de go raibh a anam dilis. May he rest in peace.

Women all done for the year

Our senior womens side have no more fixtures in the calendar year but wish to reiterate that their training schedule continues through to December 15, Thursday week, and resumes January 3, a Tuesday. Congratulations to this troupe, short-listed for Ladies Team of the Year at the Leitrim Sports Stars Awards last Saturday in The Lough Rynn Castle Hotel. While ultimately unsuccessful, our girls wish to thank the Leitrim Sports Partnership for turning on a magnificent evening and congratulate worthy category winners: Dromohair ladies football team. Training continues Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7.30pm.

Carrick’s premiers meet Ballyhaunis at home this weekend, 2.30pm in Leitrim Village. They begin their Heineken Junior Cup campaign at home against Creggs in January, and look forward to a second round clash against Junior 1A heavyweights Our Lady’s Boys Club if successful. We look to make as much of our homeground advantage as possible, given both games are scheduled for the Village. Training continues on Wednesday and Friday evenings at 8pm.
