Doting couples out in Carrick on Shannon last Saturday night for Valentines weekend may have been tempted to check calendars during the night to make sure it wasn’t Halloween.

Such fears proved groundless however as the Carrick RFC “Rugby Roses” were on the prowl.  The inaugral Alternative Rugby Rose in aid of Carrick on Shannon RFC was a slightly left of centre source of entertainment last Saturday night.  As our “Roses” liberated themselves they flew around Carrick town like new butterflies to parade their new identities.

Many thanks to everyone who supported the event which was a huge success and especially our Rugby Roses, “Stephanie” Guckian, “Josephine” Mulvey, “Patricia” McEoin, “Coleen” McWeeny, “Sharon” McGuinness and the crowds favourite “Georgina” Barry.  Many thanks as always to all at Murtaghs of Carrick on Shannon for all their help on the night, a top job as always.

Congratulations to our inaugral Rugby Rose “Coleen” who controversially pipped the people’s favourite “Georgina” to the top prize.  Rumour has it that the claws are already out as to who claims the top prize at next years pageant.
