CARRICK U17’S TAKE HUGE STEP

MuddyPlayersCarrick on Shannon RFC took a huge step towards it’s first piece of silverware last Sunday as the u17 team fought it’s way to the semi final of the Div 2 Connacht League.

We faced a winner takes all clash against Castlebar and had the added disadvantage opf ceding home advantage due to our pitch in Mohill being unplayable.  Undaunted Hollidge and Hodgson’s Young Army took the trip down the N5 and emerged from the lions den with a precious 19-0 victory and a semi final date against table toppers Dunmore.  Shane Quinn with a brace and Jordan Nally were our try scorers, with Nally adding two conversions for good measure.

At time of writing our semi final date will be an away fixture against Dunmore on Sunday 24th Jan, kick off time to be confirmed.

This young team has advanced rapidly with every outing this season and will face our upcoming date with the league heavyweights with no fear and nothing to lose.  Our last meeting in Mohill, though ending in an 8-22 reverse was a ferocious contest.

All parents, members and supporters are urged to take the trip down to Galway next Sunday to get behind the boys.

FLAT HEINEKEN CUP EXPERIENCE FOR CARRICK SENIORS

Carrick_Corinthians564_292Our foray into the Connacht Junior Cup proved a humbling one for our seniors in Leitrim Village last Sunday as we hosted Corinthians.  Our more prestigous guests, a division above us, made hay in the winter sunshine, on the back of a dominant scrum and relentless running from deep.  Carrick, fought manfully and pushed all the while for consolation scores but were picked off repeatedly by our more clinical opponents.

This outing will have to be marked down as a thawing out excercise after our enforced winter lay off.  Our league form of late has improved and we look to continue that improvement at home to Gort next Sunday.
