Connacht Rugby is delighted to announce that the inaugural Connacht Rugby Residential Camp, sponsored by totalhealth, will take place this summer at Sligo Grammar School.

The Residential Camp takes place from Thursday 25th June – Tuesday 30th June and provides male rugby players between the ages of 12-17 with a complete rugby package, allowing them to experience a week in the life of a professional rugby player.

From training sessions led by professional Connacht Rugby coaches, to guest speakers, off-site activities and plenty more, the Residential Camp will ensure teenage rugby players can build their game up to the next level.

Here’s all you need to know about what’s involved.

What is a Residential Camp, and what’s included?

All residents will arrive at 4pm on Thursday 25th June and depart just after 1pm the following Tuesday. During that time the players would receive a comprehensive programme including rugby training, strength & conditioning, nutrition, mental skills and even the basics of refereeing.

Regarding the rugby itself, the residential camp will have a strong focus on core skills – catch pass, tackle, continuity and breakdown.

There will also be plenty of game based activities such as transition games and modified contact games.

There will be a position specific skills session everyday and players will work with the coaches to approach this in a structured way.

Footage of on pitch sessions will be captured and players will take part in reviews led by the coaches to identify learnings.

All players will depart with individual feedback and suggestions for how to continue their development as players.

What else is happening?

The Club & Community team at Connacht Rugby believes it’s vital that all attendees leave the camp as more well-rounded athletes both on and off the field. That’s why the inclusion of daily off-field activities & team-building exercises is a crucial component of what we are offering.

The first of these activities we can confirm is an evening of kayaking along the Garavogue and Lough Gill, something the players are sure to immensely enjoy.

Further activities will be announced in due course!

Where’s it on?

Sligo Grammar School will provide the perfect setting for our first Residential Camp. As well as their boarding facilities, Sligo Grammar is a school steeped in rugby history having won the Top Oil Connacht Senior A Schools Cup 10 times.

We would like to thank Sligo Grammar for accommodating us that week and look forward to working with them in the months ahead.

How much does it cost?

Early bird prices, which are valid until 31st March 2020, start at just €399 for residents. We are also offering an early bird price of €299 for non-residents.

Along with the above programme all attendees will receive exclusive brand new Connacht Rugby apparel, details of which will be announced soon.
