Connacht Extravaganza and Festival Reports

Connacht Rugby recently held a number of festivals and extravaganzas for National School children. The traditional Extravaganza held in March was this year supplemented by similar events in Sligo, Castlebar and Athlone. Over 1,000 children, 91 Teams and 36 Schools attended the 4 venues. Schools were asked to pick a nation on registration and came to the Extravaganza in the national dress of their chosen nation, where they embarked on a Nations Parade before enjoying a funfilled day of Tag Rugby.

The IRFU launched it’s Play Rugby packs and online resource in September 2010 and we are now seeing the fruits of this programme with 73 Schools having received packs. Festivals have also been run in Sligo, Westport, Creggs, Monivea and Galway with again over 1,000 children involved.

Credit must go to the teachers, schools and children involved who put such effort into attending the extravaganzas and festivals. If your school is interested in taking part in the Play Rugby Programme or next years Extravaganza’s please contact; Lyndon Jones, Community Rugby Manager. Email; [email protected]
