An exciting weekend of Connacht Junior League action saw Galwegians regain top spot in division 1A. Galwegians took on a spirited Connemara side in Glenina on Sunday and the final scoreline of 47-26 did not do justice to the closeness of the encounter. That win for Galwegians combined with a home draw for Westport saw the Galway side return to the summit of the table following a one week absence. 13-13 was the final score in Westport as Ballinasloe underlined their credentials in the top tier of Connacht Junior rugby with a battling display. The final game in the division saw Monivea record a narrow 16-13 home win over Buccaneers. The win lifts Monivea to third place in the table as they look to build momentum in the run up to Christmas.
In division 1B Tuam maintained their hugely impressive start to the season as they defeat Ballyhaunis away from home. The final score line read 0-12 in favour of the away side who have yet to lose a league of cup fixture this season. Creggs, however, kept up the pressure at the top of the table by registering a bonus point win over OLBC in Galway. The win means Creggs have won four out of Five league matches this season and sit just one point behind Tuam at the top of the table due to their superior bonus point tally. In Castlebar, NUIG defeated their hosts by a single point in an entertaining affair. NUIG eventually winning by 20 points to 19. The final result in the division saw Loughrea register an 11-5 home victory over Sligo.
In J1C it was the away sides that came out on top in the two games which were played. The leagues top two Ballinrobe and Dunmore both registering important wins. Ballinrobe continued their free scoring form to defeat Galwegians 8-54 in Crowley Park. Dunmore downed Corrib in Headford on a score line of 3-18.
Though it wasn’t a regular round of fixtures in J2 there were three catch up games played. Connemara got their campaign up and running with an impressive home win over Monivea. Connemara will look to build on this win as they face Carrick this weekend. Elsewhere, Portumna made it three wins from three to replace NUIG at the top of the J2 table. Portuma winning 36-10 against Ballina. In Westport, Corinthians picked up a narrow win beating their hosts by a single point.
