Westport RFC went top of division 1A with a hard fought win over Galwegians last weekend. The top two battled it out in Crowley Park where Westport eventually ran out 10-11 winners to overtake their Galway rivals at the summit of the table. The win sees Westport take a one point advantage into the fifth round of fixtures this weekend. Elsewhere there were away wins for Monivea who beat Connemara and Buccaneers who comprehensively beat Corinthians in Galway. The win for Monivea was their first in division 1A this season and saw them move above their opponents in the table.
Home advantage proved to be equally fruitless in division 1B as only one of three sides managed to bag a home win. On Saturday night Castlebar travelled to face Ballyhaunis and it was the visitors who came out on top in a tight game. Just one score separated the sides at the final whistle as Castlebar won 20-25. Creggs too picked up an away win with an impressive victory over Sligo. The win leaves Creggs in second position ahead of an away trip to face OLBC this weekend. Tuam RFC were the only side to pick up a home win as they further extended their unbeaten start to the season with a 22-5 victory over OLBC. The win leaves Tuam with 16 points after four rounds of league games while they also have a Curley Cup Final to look forward to later in the season.
There were two games played in J1C and both games proved to be one sided affairs. Ballinrobe defeated Buccaneers to maintain their one hundred percent start to the league campaign. Dunmore scored 62 points as they kept up the pressure at the top of the table, beating Galwegians by a comfortable margin.
Home advantage proved to be more valuable in J2 as the three games played were all won by the home sides. A home victory for Carrick RFC saw them notch up a score line of 37-0 over opponents Tuam RFC in the second leg of the league at the weekend. Despite having a number of players out with injuries the yellow and black jerseys of Carrick were all over the opposition as they took the match with a total of 6 tries. Gort were also victorious, beating Westport 25-18 and NUIG notched a 31-21 victory over Loughrea. For all upcoming fixtures visit the new Connacht Club and Community Website.
