Connacht schools were well represented at the Irish Rugby Schools Festival in the Aviva Stadium last weekend. Connacht was represented on the day by boys teams from Gortnor Abbey of Crossmollina, St. Jarlaths of Tuam, St Muredeachs of Ballina, Colaiste Muire Ballymote, St. Marys College in Ballygar and Scoil Chuimsitheacht Chiaráin, An Cheathru Rua. Connacht girls schools rugby was also well represented on the day by Ard Scoil Mhuire of Ballinasloe and Sacred Heart Westport.
The event gave the young rugby stars the chance of a lifetime by hosting a series of matches on the main pitch in the Aviva stadium. Refreshments were then provided to all involved once the action on the pitch had finished. President of the Connacht Branch, Gerry O’Donnell, was in attendance and he congratulated the IRFU on running an excellent event.
‘Schools rugby is a very important aspect of the sport in Ireland and I congratulate the IRFU on running a superb event which really promotes the vibrancy of the schools game in this country. Everyone who travelled from Connacht had an excellent day and it is certainly an experience which will live long in the memory for those who took part.’
