Connacht train and meet supporters at Buccaneers
The Connacht Rugby senior squad made the journey to Buccaneers RFC last Friday to train and take part in an Open Session. Organised with the Athlone-based club and Connacht CRO Charlie Cooper, a number of local primary and secondary schools travelled from around the area to watch the senior squad train and meet up with players Jack Carty, Danny Qualter, and Shane Layden who all have strong connections with the club.

The large group of over 500 children were then invited onto the pitch to join in with the players for a number of games and rugby drills. The Connacht Rugby coaches and players put the kids through their paces before an autograph session and group photo.

The squad were also delighted to welcome St. Hilda’s Athlone who came out to watch the session and meet the players.

A big thank you to all at Buccaneers RFC for their hospitality and to the schools, teachers, principals and parents who all came out and made it a memorable day for everyone.

This was Connacht Rugby’s fifth open training session in the current session and follows on from successful trips to Sligo, Ballinrobe, Monivea and Loughrea RFC.
