Munster U18 29 – 3 Connacht U18

CIT, Bishopstown, Cork Saturday September 12th 2015

Connacht U18 fell to their first defeat of the 2015 Interprovincial series at the hands of a strong Munster side in CIT, Cork last Saturday. On the back of victories over the Exiles and Ulster, Connacht, who are sponsored by NUI Galway, were primed and cautiously confident heading into the match but the poor weather conditions snuffed out the possibility of a free flowing game of rugby and both sides fell foul to the slippery ball with an error strewn first half.

Both sides kicked a penalty to leave the half time score at three all but it was Munster who came out of the blocks the quicker and their rolling maul lead to a try just two minutes into the second half. Connacht were unable to get back on the scoreboard and Munster made effective use of their driving maul, gaining considerable yards every time the move was set. Connacht never gave up though and were desperately unlucky not to convert a number of linebreaks when the backline capitalised on stolen ruck ball from the aggressive Connacht pack. It wasn’t to be however and a couple of late tries from Munster put the result beyond doubt.

Connacht will regroup ahead of this weekend’s final Interprovincial clash against Leinster in the Sportsground (Saturday ko: 13:00) where a win could still secure the championship title.
