Connacht U18 completed the 2016 Interprovincial Series with a loss to Munster in the Sportsground last Saturday. Both teams came into the fixture with wins over Ulster and Leinster and this was a grand-slam match for the series. It had been an impressive season for the Connacht side, dispatching the Exiles (25-15) in the opening match in the Sportsground before falling to a defeat at the hands of an enormous National Representative side from Italy the following weekend.

An away match against Leinster in brought a deserved 25-16 victory in exceptionally wet conditions in Donnybrook before Connacht hosted Ulster the following week in Galway. Connacht emerged victorious from that encounter, finishing off their Ulster counterparts in a thrilling 17-10 win in the Sportsground to set up the winner-takes-all final match last weekend.

Unfortunately is wasn’t to be for the Connacht side and despite first-half tries from Christian Neilson and captain Cian Huxford, added to a second half try from Liam Winnett, Munster ran out eventual winners with a final score 35-17.

Speaking about the Series Head Coach Colm Tucker said:

“Unfortunately we weren’t able to complete the series with a win over Munster but this is a great bunch of players who have represented themselves, their clubs and their schools with immense pride throughout the Summer programme and Interpro Series, and they can hold their heads high knowing they gave it their best shot. I hope some of these young men have made friendships that will last a lifetime and they will go on to represent their clubs and schools with the same pride and passion that they’ve shown over the last couple of months.”
