Munster U19’s 13 Connacht U19’s 13

U19s_Munster350In a blustery Thomand park Connacht started their U19 inter provincial series playing with a strong win. Early pressure resulted in a penalty which Darragh Leader kicked to give Connacht a 3-0 lead.
Numerous scoring opportunities were wasted by a series of knockons and solid Munster defence and this continued to be the story of the first half.
Munster started strong in the second half and forced an early couple of penaltys which they converted to go 6-3 up. The Connacht response was persistent and after a series of good moves Cathal Murthagh scored a fine try. The conversion was missed but Connacht were in the lead 8-6 against the wind. Connacht from the restart were overplaying in their own 22 and in true Munster fashion the home side scored a try from there forwards and was converted to reclaim the lead 13-8.
Connacht to their credit worked extremely hard to reclaim the ball from the restart and after a series of  try line attacks and brave Munster defence James Connolly forced his way over in the corner to score the leveling try.

The conversion drifted wide of the post for a win but this team displayed major character and self belief to come back and force a draw. The 21Connacht players deserve major credit for the way they continued to play open controlled rugby.
