Connacht u20’s came into this game after a disappointing result last week at the hands of Leinster in Donnybrook. Head Coach Mossy Lawler was hoping for a positive reaction as a result and got just that with an excellent win in poor conditions at The Sportsground.

Connacht out half Simon Keller and Ulster no. 10 Andrew Magrath traded early penalties to leave the score at 6-3 at half time in a very tight contest.

Connacht came out with renewed enthusiasm in the 2nd half and after a superb midfield break by Connacht blindside Matt Burke he offloaded to right wing Michael Boland to score in the left corner which was converted by Keller to leave the score at 13-3 in favour of the home side.

Ulster were not going to give in without a fight and their pick and go game was gaining momentum which was rewarded after 55 mins when they got over for a try on the Bohermore end right corner. Magrath missed the conversion to leave Connacht with a slender 5 point advantage at 13-8.

Connacht were awarded another kickable penalty on 60mins which was converted by Keller to put some breathing space between the sides at 16-8

On 65mins Connacht made their way back into the Ulster 22 and after several rucks they got over for their 2nd try by lock Peter Claffey which was converted by Keller to leave the score at 20-8 to the home side.

On 72mins Connacht sealed victory after a scrum in midfield in the Ulster 22, Connacht Scrum Half Steven Kerins fed Full Back Tim Carroll to score again in the right corner. Conversion was missed by Keller.

In the end Connacht came away with a relatively comfortable 28-8 win. They finish their Inter-pro series next Friday against Munster at 5pm in the Sportground.
