Creggs 7 15 Ballinasloe

Ballinasloe put in a battling performance to record their second league win of the campaign at The Green in Creggs on Sunday.

A thunder shower before kick off and a tricky cross field wind blowing from the town terrace made life difficult for the players early on and lead to a plethora of handling errors. Scores were hard to come by. The visitors lead 3–0 at the interval thanks to Robert O’Byrne’s penalty slotted home in the 38th minute.

Ballinasloe began to find their momentum in the second half and started to build the phases. A break by Richie Shepherd brought play close to Creggs line but a knock on killed a try scoring opportunity. Twenty minutes into the half O’Byrne made a clean break from half way to touch down before adding the conversion and Ballinasloe were 10pts to the good.

Try as they might the hosts were unable to make any serious dent in a committed visitors defence.

The league points were wrapped up in the 85th minute when the winners ran the ball for winger Simon Hyde to go in at the corner for a try that was not converted. Creggs to their credit never gave up and were rewarded at the death with a try by Mark Hester that was converted from the touch line by Emmet Collins.
