Connacht Rugby will play their 100th Challenge Cup game this weekend when they visit Sandy Park for the round 2 clash with Exeter Chiefs on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Connacht travel over to Exeter in high spirits following their bonus point win over La Rochelle last weekend. Pat Lam’s men sit four points ahead of Exeter at the top of pool 2 following the English side’s defeat away to Bayonne in round 1.

The Chiefs, who return to the tier-2 competition after two seasons in the Heineken Cup, were in front in the closing stages at Stade Jean Dauger and looking odds on for a victory over Bayonne, but three minutes from time, a try by replacement Lisiate Fa’aoso converted by Christophe Loustalot gave the home side a dramatic 30-24 win.

This is the first time Connacht and Exeter will meet in Europe but the two sides did clash in a pre-season friendly in August 2012 when Connacht were 8 – 6 winners at Sandy Park. Former Connacht winger Fetu’u Vainikolo, who now plays with the Chiefs, scored the only try of the game.

Exeter have had a superb start to their Aviva Premiership campaign. Having won four of their six games, they currently sit in third place in the league table.

Coached by Rob Baxter, they surprisingly lost away to Newcastle Falcons three weeks ago but bounced back to score an impressive 44-24 win over London Irish.

They blew the Exiles away at Sandy Park in the opening half when they raced into a 30-3 lead. They scored five tries and Gareth Steenson converted all of them as well as adding three penalties.

Lock Damian Welch scored two of them with Don Armand, Carl Rimmer and Henry Slade also getting in for tries to send them into Europe on a high.

The Connacht Clan are traveling to Exeter v Connacht on Saturday October 25th and have decided to go with East Terrace South (standing area). Tickets can be purchased online on the Exeter website. It’s £30 for adults, £18 for students, £11 for kids.

The game on Saturday will not be televised but you can listen to live coverage from Galway Bay FM, courtesy of Life Style Sports. Follow @ConnachtRugby on Twitter for live updates.
