Ballina RFC President’s Lunch

There were decorations and dinner aplenty on Saturday afternoon as club President Marc Loftus hosted the 2011 fundraiser social.

Revived last year, it is fast-asserting itself as a staple of the annual calendar proving popular with young and old. The luncheon threw together a kindred mix of Ballina rugby royalty comprising 80 of the club’s former stars and current ambassadors.BlnaLunch11a_640x340

Club public relations officer Clive Moore said the well-patronised event allowed the club’s rising stars among its active playing ranks to mix and mingle with stalwarts and past greats and provided an opportunity for all Ballina rugby clubbers to reminisce and relive past glories, celebrate current ones, and renew club ties in cordial surrounds.

President Marc presented Ballina’s internationals with a specially-commissioned club tie. The impressive list included Michael Moylett (Schools, under-25, Senior), Ray Sheehan (Schools), Eoghan Gannon (Youths), Ger Brady (Youths, under-19, under-21), Peter Durcan (Schools, under-21), David Heffernan (under-20), David Mescal (under-19, under-21), Ken Doherty (Youths), Alan Keaveney (Youths), Gavin Duffy (Schools, under-21, Senior), Willie Ruane (Barbarians), and Brian Moylett (Schools, under-19).BlnaLunch11b_640x382_640x382

After enjoying the excellent fare offered over three courses, those gathered celebrated long into the evening. A signed Connacht Jersey (courtesy of current squad skipper Gavin Duffy) headlined the auction, and was picked up by club doctor Charlie Mehan.

A special word of thanks must go to all those who helped Marc make such a memorable event possible.
