On Saturday afternoon, the Connacht Eagles will play host to national side Germany for a 2:30pm kick off at the Sportsground.

The Connacht management supporters will be delighted to welcome back senior players Jake Heenan and Tiernan O’Halloran who are both set to start on Saturday after long absences due to injury.

The Eagles team will be announced by Friday.


After their promotion to ENC 1A and a close loss to Russia in the RWC Qualifier last year, the German National Team started the new year with a three-day training camp last weekend in Heidelberg/Germany. The main focus of the camp was to get the players back in the team structure. The core of the team that will be on show on Saturday is made up of current German Sevens players and 15s Champion side Heidelberger RK.

The game against the Connacht Eagles will be the only test before the German XV will take on Georgia on February 7th in Heusenstamm, Germany.

Nine of the 23 players are also involved in the German Sevens National Team which finished last years Grand-Prix Series in 10th place, beating England & Scotland in the last tournament in Bucharest.


Robert Mohr (36): Former captain of French Top 14 side La Rochelle and one of the most experienced players in the team.  Position: 2nd Row

Clemens von Grumbkow (31): Played several seasons for Italian Super 10 Club I Cavalieri Prato and french Team U.S. Dax (PRO D2). Utility back (12, 13, 14) and current 7s player. Strong runner and good defender.

Sean Armstrong  (28):  Started his rugby career in Australia, highest level he played was for the Queensland Reds A. Playing in Germany since 2008. Captain of the German XV since 2014 and strong attacker. Position: scrum-half
